Copeland Group Demonstrates Community Commitment

Copeland Group Services once again delivered a seamless, visible, and professional security presence at the recent We Are Wirral festival, keeping families, performers, and staff safe throughout the event. But this year, their contribution extended beyond the perimeter, demonstrating a strong commitment to Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) through community engagement.

In a unique initiative, Copeland invited cadets from the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) unit attached to Birkenhead High School Academy (BHSA) to participate behind the scenes. Based just a mile from Birkenhead Park, the CCF girls, aged 13 to 17, joined the team to gain hands-on experience of event security operations.

Steve McNulty, Managing Director of Copeland Group Services and a uniformed adult volunteer at BHSA, praised the cadets:

These young women gave up their weekend to support their local community, and they absolutely shone. Their professionalism, curiosity, and willingness to learn were inspiring. The public responded really positively to them – it was a great experience all round. Copeland takes its corporate and social responsibility seriously, and this kind of initiative goes hand-in-hand with our use of EcoWatch and other green technologies like the solar-powered mobile CCTV platform we deployed at the event.

Cadet in the Control Room of We Are Wirral

Cadet R described it as “a fantastic idea” and said the experience not only boosted her confidence but will also strengthen her CV:

I loved dealing with the public and seeing how security works from inside the control room.

Alongside its CSR focus, Copeland ensured security was not only done, but also seen to be done. A strong on-site officer presence helped reassure attendees and deter antisocial behaviour. Bag checks at entry points intercepted any potential contraband or weapons, ensuring safety for all. Robust perimeter controls protected revenue by stopping gatecrashers and discouraged attempts to bring in alcohol or illegal substances.

Copeland’s backstage teams ensured that performers could concentrate on their sets without distraction, while mobile CCTV platforms provided round-the-clock visibility, from rigging and de-rigging to the event itself, all linked to a central, state-of-the-art control room. These eco-powered units not only enhance coverage but also reflect Copeland’s sustainable values.
